We wondered whether we might see a gaming accessory or phone on the day after Sony announced last week that it would host an Xperia-focused gaming event on September 12. Now that the moment has arrived, it appears that the Xperia Stream was the major announcement.
The Sony Xperia Stream is a cooling system and streaming platform that mounts to the Sony Xperia 1 IV like a case and powered by the device’s USB-C connector.
A fan works as the cooling system, and users can control its speed using the Game Enhancer utility. The Xperia 1 IV most definitely requires a fan because it has such a bad sustained performance.
Additionally, Sony’s new gadget includes four ports at the bottom: a 3.5mm jack, an HDMI output, an Ethernet port, and a USB-C port. This means that it is simple to play on a monitor or tv while keeping the phone charged. The highest video output is 1080p/120Hz.
We do not yet know the Xperia Stream’s price or availability, but given the cost of Sony’s 2022 flagship phones, we expect it won’t be cheap. Also unstated is whether Sony will release a version for the Xperia 5 IV.
